My SM-GU running stock Android 9 periodically goes into a mode where it marks all app updates and other downloads as "Download Pending." After a while (measured in days) it downloads everything and goes back to normal for a while. Apps usually don't immediately auto update even if an update is available and you're on WiFi/mobile data (as per your settings). Try to let it be for a few days and see if they auto update, or if you have a long list of apps pending for updates when you go to the My apps section in Play Store again. Google user.
